Notes:

  • See additional information in documents and video below
  • Can be used a giant power backup/generator replacement without solar panels attached.
  • Not intended for off-grid operation (has been tested in that mode see additional info)

Specs:

  • The battery is rated at 10kwh with an available capacity of 7.4kWh. Expect 6kWh in realistic use.
  • Inverter output 2kw 120V 60Hz It takes 15 seconds or more for the system to start generating 120V after the loss of AC power.
  • Solar panels: Up to three string of up to 2.5Kw each. Panels must be in series to produce 80 to 550V 12A max. This typically means at least four 24V nominal panels.
  • Requires a 240V 60Hz connection.
  • The unit could be used as giant Backup power supply is a 15 second power-up delay after the loss of power is acceptable.
  • Includes a remote control/status panel that can be installed in a convenient location.

Installation Notes:

  • Battery: The supplied Lithium Ion battery is required for operation. It will not work with other batteries.
  • 240V: The Inverter needs 240V (with a neutral) to start it. I have done this with a 120V 20A generator and a 120:240V transformer. Once started it can operated without 240V as long as there is sufficient charge in the battery.
  • To charge battery from generator it needs at least 1.5kW at 240V (with a neutral). If operated in “sell to grid” mode needs a 240V 30A  (with a neutral)  connection to the grid. Note: you need a Net Metering setup from Hydro to do this.
  • Solar Panels Ground: The panel  circuit  must only be attached to the inverter. It must not be separately grounded. The panel frame may or may not be grounded as per electrical code.
  • Current Transformers: The unit includes two current transformers to monitor the incoming/outging connection on the 240V lines. One transformer must be installed on each line or the inverter  will generate error U026 during certain modes of operation. Note that that error can occur if the transformers are on the wrong 240V line (ie L1 and L2 are switched) or are installed in the reverse orientation.
  • Don’t Send power to the Grid Mode: Unless you are setup to sell power to Hydro, you must not send power  to the grid under any circumstances. Set Switch #4 of SW1101 inside the invert to ON to limit power exporting to the grid while still allowing the grid to charge the battery,  See them manual for further details.
  • Clicking Nose: The inverter’s relays can produce a loud click clicking sound when changing operating mode.
